1. U.S. chiller and air-side market
According to BSRIA, U.S. chiller market scale came to US$ 1.1 billion in 2016 to mark 3.0% growth over 2015. By type, centrifugal chillers account for 44% of the market, followed by screw chillers at 41%, scroll chillers at 12%, and absorption chillers at 3%. On the other hand, the U.S. air-side equipment business was worth US$ 1.8 billion in 2016, 3% higher than in 2015. AHUs account for 94% of the air-side market.

2. China chiller market
In 2016, the total sales value of all types of chillers approached RMB 21.0 billion (US$ 3.15 billion), representing 1% year on-year growth. According to data from China Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Industry Association (CRAA), the market share of all types of chillers in 2016 on the basis of sales value was as follows: water-cooled screw chillers accounted for 32%, air-cooled screw chillers 6%, centrifugal chillers 26%, air-cooled scroll chillers 19%, water-cooled scroll chillers 2%, steam-fired and hot water-fired absorption chillers 9%, direct-fired absorption chillers 5%, and reciprocating chillers 1% of the total commercial air conditioning market.

3. India chiller market
The reluctance of market players to share their data always makes it difficult to get an accurate estimate of the Indian chiller market. However, industry sources estimate the market scale in 2016?2017 to be around 4,030 chillers (870,000 TR), clocking a growth of about 5% over the previous year. In terms of value, the market scale was INR 16 billion (US$ 250 million). This includes reciprocating, scroll, screw, centrifugal, and absorption chillers.

4. Southeast Asia chiller market
According to BSRIA, the total chiller market in seven countries, namely Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia, recorded a 5.3% year-on-year decline, down to US$ 290.1  million in 2016.  The bright spot was the scroll chiller market, which increased by 14.9% to US$ 25.4 million. In addition, the screw and centrifugal segments increased. The Vietnamese market markedly contributed to regional centrifugal market growth.

5. Mitsubishi Electric Adds Chillers to Its Sales Lineup
Mitsubishi Electric acquired DeLclima from De’Longhi Industrial in February 2016. Then on January 1, 2017, Climaveneta and RC Group, which are wholly owned subsidiaries of MELCO Hydronics & IT Cooling, merged and began doing business as Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems (MEHITS). About a year and a half after the acquisition of DeLclima, JARN interviewed Yoshiomi Araki, vice president of Sales and Marketing and deputy general manager of MEHITS, to hear about the latest developments at the new venture.
