1. Midea to Acquire Clivet to Reinforce Its Commercial AC Strategy
Chinese air conditioner giant Midea signed a definitive agreement on June 21 to acquire 80% of Clivet, a leading Italian chiller manufacturer with annual sales of ?130 million (US$ 145 million). The completion of the transaction is expected before the end of this year.

2. Mitsubishi Electric to Develop Global Market with 12-hp Twin-Rotary
Mitsubishi Electric has launched production and sales of a 12-hp twin-rotary compressor in China. At CRH 2016, JARN interviewed Junichi Yokoyama, chairman and president of Mitsubishi Electric (Guangzhou) Compressor (MGC), to hear about its compressor business.

3. RefriAmericas 2016 Successfully Concludes in Panama
The 13th edition of RefriAmericas, held from June 2 to 3, 2016 at Centro de Convenciones Atlapa in Panama City, attracted more than 2,200 visitors. About 90 companies, including Carrier, Daikin, Johnson Controls, LG, and Mayekawa, attended the exhibition and presented their latest products, services, and solutions for commercial and industrial refrigeration.

4. Heat Waves Leads to Record Sales of ACs in India
India recorded its highest ever temperature on May 22 when the mercury in the town of Phalodi in the western state of Rajasthan shot up to an unbearable 51?C. Sales of air conditioners jumped more than 52 year-on-year during April, and the combined numbers for April and May showed about 28% growth. The trend was continuing in June with unabated heat and a delayed monsoon.  Industry sources expect the April?June quarter to clock 25% growth over the same period last year.

5. Haier and Danfoss Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement
Haier became the first strategic partner in China of Danfoss for the world-leading oil-free magnetic bearing inverter Turbocor compressors.  As the manufacturer paved the way for the introduction of Danfoss magnetic bearing compressors to China, Haier has been developing energy saving magnetic bearing centrifugal chillers since 2006, and has launched the first magnetic bearing chiller in China.
