According to BSRIA, the total chiller market in four countries, namely Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, recorded a 9.4% year-on-year decline, from US$ 302.8 million in 2013 to US$ 274.3 million in 2014.

1. Changing Marketing Channels for ACs in Japan
A large proportion of air conditioners are still sold through retail chains, but the percentage of online sales (business-to-consumer) is expected to rise in the coming years. In China, manufacturers are very active online and doing brisk e-commerce sales.

2. Honeywell Performax LT Refrigerant First Adopted in a Indonesian Supermarket
Honeywell announced on November 11 that Hero Supermarket, one of Indonesia’s leading supermarkets, has successfully converted 250 of its chest freezers to Honeywell’s Genetron Performax LT (R407F) refrigerant.

3. AHRI Strengthens Certification Capability in Asia
On October 19, the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) signed a cooperation agreement with General Machinery Product Inspection Institute (GMPI) in Hefei, China. On this occasion, JARN interviewed Stephen Yurek, president and CEO of AHRI, to hear about its research program for low-GWP refrigerants and the details of cooperation with GMPI.

4. Danfoss Breaks Ground on New Application Development Center
On December 8, Danfoss broke ground on a new state-of-the-art laboratory for the testing of HVAC&R equipment. The new center also will facilitate training and serve as a research and development center for future innovation. Engineering Tomorrow Application Development Center will be built in Tallahassee, Florida, the United States, expanding the existing facility that houses the engineering and manufacturing of Danfoss Turbocor oil-free, magnetic bearing compressors.

5. A China’s Top Runner Program Not Subsidize Consumers
The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) revealed on its website the implementation measures of the energy efficiency Top Runner Program for air conditioners, flat-panel televisions, and refrigerators at the beginning of November.
