1. ICCC Proves Academic Interest in the Cold Chain on a Global Scale
The eighth International Institute of Refrigeration International Cold Chain Conference (ICCC) was held at Waseda University, on June 9 to 11, 2024. After the opening session, three speakers gave plenary lectures. These speakers replied to many questions from the participants regarding the most important aspects of the cold chain in relation to global environmental issues and refrigerant issues. On the afternoon of June 10, a two-day general session kicked off. It is noteworthy that many papers related to future technological trends were presented at this conference.

2. European Council Approves Net-Zero Industry Act
On May 27, the European Council (EC) adopted a regulation on the establishment of a framework of measures designed to strengthen Europe’s net-zero technology manufacturing ecosystem. The regulation aims to boost the industrial roll-out of net-zero technologies that the European Union (EU) needs in order to achieve its climate goals, using the unique strength of the single market to reinforce Europe’s position as a leader in industrial green technologies.

3. Phase Change Materials Used in Refrigerators to Reduce Carbon Emissions
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the largest science and energy laboratory under the DOE, is known for its world-leading scientific research and technical breakthroughs. It recently announced that it had developed a novel technology using phase change materials in residential-use refrigerators.

4. Thai AC Market Booming Again
This year, the RAC market in Thailand is reported to have gotten off to a good start too, thanks to extreme heat. Such a good market performance is expected to continue in the future, and the RAC and PAC market scale will possibly recover to 1.3 million units within a few years. Thailand is also the world’s second-largest manufacturing base for RACs and PACs after China. Many foreign companies have established manufacturing bases in Thailand, with a view to exporting outside Thailand and entering the domestic Thai market. Therefore, Thailand currently has an annual RAC and PAC production of about 15 million units, accounting for 7 to 10% of the world’s total.

5. Dorin Contributes to Sustainability as a CO2 Compressor Pioneer
In March 2024, JARN visited Dorin’s compressor plant located in Florence, Tuscany, Italy, and interviewed the family-owned company’s president, Ing. Mario Dorin, to ask about its successful achievements spanning over 100 years in the compressor industry.
