1. European Parliament Adopts Proposed EPBD Revision
On March 12, 2024, Members of the European Parliament (MEP) adopted the proposed revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) with 370 votes to 199 and 46 abstentions. It will now have to be formally endorsed by the Council of Ministers too, in order to become law. The revised EPBD this time aims to progressively reduce GHG emissions and energy consumption in the EU building sector, and to make it climate neutral by 2050. It also aims to ensure that more worst-performing buildings are renovated and to improve information-sharing on energy performance.

2. Daikin Applied Introduces New Navigator WWV, a Water-cooled Chiller
In March, Daikin Applied introduced its enhanced Navigator WWV water-cooled screw chiller that uses low-global warming potential (GWP) R513A refrigerant. In addition to delivering industry-leading performance, customers can pair the new chiller with an optional Templifier TWV water heater to create an energy-and cost-efficient heat recovery solution. The combination of a low GWP refrigerant with a heat recovery configuration allows building owners and operators to trim utility costs, and accelerate their sustainability and decarbonization efforts.

3. Hisense Partners with Honeywell on Lower-GWP Refrigerants
On February 29, Honeywell announced that Hisense will use Honeywell’s Solstice 454B refrigerant with its residential air conditioner products. Solstice 454B is a lower-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant designed to replace R410A refrigerant with minimal conversion costs.

4. Arkema Promotes Forane Low-GWP Refrigerants
During 2024 AHR Expo held in January in Chicago, the United States, JARN visited Arkema’s booth and interviewed its staff: Allen Karpman, director, Government Affairs, Glenn Haun, general manager, Forane Refrigerants, and Scot Swan, business manager, Refrigerants, Fluorochemicals. They introduced their highlighted refrigerants at the expo.

5. OUTES Reports RMB 2.5 Billion Sales at Its Dealer Conference
On March 15 to 17, OUTES successfully held the Excellent Dealer Conference and Heat Pump Technology Global Summit in 2024 with ‘Creating the Future Together in the Heat Pump Era’ as theme, in Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, the location of the group’s headquarters. At the conference, nearly 3,000 experts, scholars, partners, and media reporters from all over the country gathered and JARN reporters were also invited to participate in and witness this grand event.
