Scotland Bans Polluting Heating Systems in New Builds
2024-05-03
On April 1, 2024, Scotland enforced the New Build Heat Standard (NBHS) that bans the use of direct-emission or polluting heating systems such as oil and gas boilers as well as bioenergy in new homes and buildings. Instead, they need to use climate-friendly alternatives such as heat pumps and heat networks. Heat networks can be used regardless of their fuel source, including ones using direct emissions heat.
