1. RECIPROCATING
The global volume of the hermetic reciprocating compressor industry is approximately 230 million units. Judging from fully enclosed compressor uses, they can be divided into two segments. One is household refrigerators, accounting for 90% of the total demand, about 190 to 200 million units; compressors for light commercial use account for 10%, about 30 million units.

2. CENTRIFUGAL
The capacity of conventional centrifugal chillers usually starts from 300 tons, with most sales in the 500 to 700 ton range. The largest single centrifugal compressor can reach 3,000 tons. A system with two inverter-driven compressors can achieve 5,400 tons. JARN estimates global centrifugal compressor market demand recorded double-digit growth, reaching 29,500 units in 2023.

3. TECHNICAL TRENDS
With the advent of innovative oil-free technologies in the late 1990s, not only has the energy efficiency of centrifugal compressors been significantly improved, but also their capacity has been extended to small ranges as low as 60 tons. At the same time, centrifugal compressors have started to be used not only for water-cooled chillers but also for air-cooled chillers and heat pumps.
