1. Manufacturers Display Their Serious Approaches to Carbon Neutrality at HVAC&R Japan 2024
HVAC&R Japan 2024 was held from January 30 to February 2 at Tokyo Big Sight, with ‘Find the future with HVAC&R’ as theme, and was organized by the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA). This 43rd edition was held for the first time since the recent pandemic restrictions have been eased, and the venue regained vitality. Accordingly, the number of visitors surpassed the 2018 record prior to the pandemic, with about 33,500 in total during the four-day event. Among them, overseas visitors increased significantly.

2. Haier Believes in Bright Future of R290 Heat Pumps
At C&R 2023 exhibition, which was held in Madrid, Spain, in November, JARN seized the opportunity to visit Haier’s booth and interview its two representatives. Fidel Espiñeira, country manager HVAC Spain, Haier HVAC European HQ, talked about Haier’s highlights at C&R and other topics.

3. Canada Increases Grants for Heat Pump Installations
The Government of Canada announced that it has increased the amount of grants available to qualifying homeowners who switch from an oil- or natural gas-fired heating system to an electric heat pump system through programs including the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) program. The OHPA program was launched in March 2023 and has been providing low-and median-income households grants of up to 10,000 Canadian dollars (C$) (about US$ 7,400) to purchase and install a heat pump system. The government has now increased this grant to a maximum of C$ 15,000 (about US$ 11,200), with an additional payment of C$ 250 (about US$ 190) to households in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

4. Panasonic Unveils 20 hp Cold Chain Refrigeration Condensing Units
Panasonic Heating & Cooling Solutions presented the next step in R744 technology in the form of its new 20 hp cold chain refrigeration condensing units which complement the existing range of 2, 4, and 10 hp systems. These cutting-edge units are engineered to redefine industry standards and address environmental concerns by replacing high global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants such as R404A.

5. World AC Market 2023 - LATIN AMERICA
Air conditioning demand in Latin America rebounded markedly, and the market recovered smoothly, recovering from reaching rock bottom of 2020. JARN estimates that total air conditioner demand in Latin America reached about 9.82 million units in 2023, an increase of 13.4% from 2022.
