1. Heat Waves Fail to Become a Powerful AC Market Booster
Overall, the air conditioner markets that performed well in the first half of the year continued to perform well, while the markets that performed poorly seemed to be bogged down in a slump. It can be said that the extreme summer heat waves that hit the Northern Hemisphere did not question have sufficient impact to reverse this situation, in the context of declined consumer purchasing power due to the global economic slowdown, rising energy and commodity prices, etc. The RAC segment has been hit particularly hard by the economic downturn.

4. Haier Speeds up Exploration in Africa
Haier entered the African market in 1998. Thanks to scorching weather, local residents create strong demand for cooling, which however was impeded by a shortage of electricity. In the air conditioner segment, Haier launched its GenPAL air conditioner for use with power generators in Nigeria, which is able to achieve fast cooling with operation of power generators. The product was a hit on the local market when it was released, enabling Haier air conditioners to achieve a 20% growth rate in the context of a declining trend.

5. Musings on HVAC&R - Air Conditioning of the Future
Global energy use by air conditioners is expected to triple by 2050, according to ‘The Future of Cooling’ report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) published in 2018. This is partly due to the fact that there are 2.8 billion people living in hot climates, and air conditioner ownership is expected to increase in those areas. At present, expectations for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) are increasing against the backdrop of new trends in society, the economy, the environment, and technology such as global warming prevention, carbon neutrality, new refrigerants, artificial intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT). The future direction of air conditioning to meet those expectations has emerged to some extent.
