In Thailand, hot weather is spurring sales of air conditioners. The period spanning early March to mid-May is the official summer season, although the tropical country has an average temperature of above 28ºC all year round. According to the Thai Meteorological Department, this year, Thailand experienced the hottest summer in eight years. On April 16, the temperature reached 44.6ºC in Tak Province, located at the border between Northwest Thailand and Myanmar, matching the record in Mae Hong Son, north of Tak, on April 28, 2016. Bangkok has regularly seen temperatures of about 37ºC this April, and with the high humidity, the perceived temperature felt like over 40ºC.
