1. Europe Accelerates HFC Phase-out and Adds More Bans
The European Parliament has decided to accelerate the phase-down of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) and to achieve total phase out by 2050. On April 5, the European Council announced that European member states agreed on a mandate for the presidency to start negotiations with the European Parliament on the two European Commission proposals. The negotiating mandate agreed by the member states amends the proposal’s phase-down schedule among other things. Following this announcement, an alliance of 10 leading European associations and global partners responded on April 6.

2. Heat Pumps in the Limelight at ISH 2023
ISH 2023, the world’s leading trade fair for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) plus water, was held on March 13 to 17, in Frankfurt, Germany. JARN introduces here global leading manufacturers’ highlighted exhibits as a photo report.

3. First Use of Low-GWP Refrigerants in JCI Scroll and Screw Chillers in U.S
Johnson Controls has announced the first use of refrigerants with low GWP in screw and scroll chillers in the United States. Specifically, R454B refrigerant was used in the YORK YLAA air-cooled scroll chiller, and R1234ze refrigerant was used in the YORK YVFA free-cooling inverter screw chiller. R454B refrigerant has a GWP of 466 and replaces conventional R410A refrigerant. Meanwhile, R1234ze has an ultra-low GWP of just 7

4. Fujitsu General to Expand ATW Heat Pump Business in Europe
In December 2022, Fujitsu General established FGAHP, a joint venture (JV) with France-based Groupe Atlantic (GA) for the manufacture of air-to-water (ATW) heat pumps in Europe. At the beginning of this year, JARN interviewed Etsuro Saito, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Fujitsu General, to hear about its ATW heat pump business in Europe.

5. Sunwill, an Air Conditioning Fan Expert in China
Sunwill is a well-known provider of basic research and development (R&D) on air conditioning fans and integrated solutions for molding compounds in China. It was founded in 1992. In recent years, the company has developed rapidly and attracted attention at home and abroad. For this reason, JARN recently visited the factory at Sunwill’s headquarters in Shunde, Foshan City, Guangdong Province.
