1. World Compressor Market in 2022 - OVERVIEW
Negatively affected by the pandemic and unfavorable weather, the global room air conditioner (RAC) market, which is struggling to recover, declined slightly year on year, while the packaged air conditioner (PAC) market showed low single digit growth. Global demand for air conditioning compressors in 2022 also showed the same trend.

2. ROTARY
Due to the decline of the RAC market, which accounts for about 90% of rotary compressor applications, the rotary compressor market shrank in 2022. JARN estimates that market demand for rotary compressors decreased by 3.1%, reaching 205.71 million units in 2022.

3. SCROLL
Driven by the easing of the global pandemic, global demand for light commercial air conditioning, and commercial air conditioning (CAC) as a whole, has rebounded, bringing a low-single-digit increase to the scroll compressor market. JARN estimates that global demand for scroll compressors grew by 5.7%, reaching 16.68 million units in 2022.

4. SCREW
Screw compressors used for air conditioning decreased by 0.8% compared with 2021; refrigeration applications increased 4.5%; heat pump applications increased significantly. JARN estimates that global demand for screw compressors for AC&R amounted to 128,900 units in 2022, demonstrating a 0.3% year-on-year increase.

5. Mitsubishi Electric Compressors Head the Market with Alternative Refrigerant Models
At 2023 AHR Expo held in the United States this February, JARN interviewed Mamoru Chiyonobu, president and managing director of Siam Compressor Industry (SCI), a Mitsubishi Electric group company based in Thailand, to hear about the compressor business of the Mitsubishi Electric group and SCI’s role within it.
