1. Mitsubishi Electric to Build an Indian Plant for RACs and AC Compressors
On January 12, 2023, Mitsubishi Electric announced that it will invest some ¥26.7 billion (about US$ 222.5 million), in its subsidiary company Mitsubishi Electric India to establish a factory for the production of room air conditioners (RACs) and compressors in India. Local production, targeted to start in October 2025, is expected to help the company meet growing demand in the Indian market. Initial annual capacity will total 300,000 RAC outdoor units, then beginning in December 2025, 650,000 compressors.

2. European Countries Scrap Fossil Fuel Heating Systems
European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) reported that more and more European countries are banning heating systems operating on fossil fuels and those countries are as follows. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia and United Kingdom.

3. LG’s Seamless Preparation for HP Business Achieves Big Results in Germany
During Chillventa 2022, JARN interviewed Andreas Gelbke, director, Air Solution, and Nomi Lee, product director, Air Conditioning and Energy Solution, LG Electronics Deutschland, to hear about the company’s business performance in Germany, in particular, its air-to-water (ATW) heat pump segment.

4. Johnson Controls Offers Residential HVAC Leasing Program
On December 2, 2022, Johnson Controls announced its new Ultimate Home Comfort program. Available to U.S. homeowners, Ultimate Home Comfort is a leasing program for YORK-brand heating and cooling systems. According to Johnson Controls, a high-efficiency YORK residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can save homeowners up to 53% on their annual energy costs compared with an older system with rated energy efficiency of 10 seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER).

5. India May Witness Demand for New AC Every 15 Seconds
As India battles severe heat waves every year due to climate change, a sustainable cooling strategy can not only help the country create jobs and reduce emissions but also open an investment opportunity of US$ 1.6 trillion by 2040, says a new report by the World Bank. The report also says that by 2037, demand for cooling equipment in India is likely to be eight times higher than current levels. There will be demand for a new air conditioner every 15 seconds, leading to a 435% rise in annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the next two decades, it notes.
