Mitsubishi Electric: Scroll Compressor

2023-01-13
Scroll compressors use a simple compression concept based on the unique involute spiral shape of the scroll. Two identical scrolls are paired together to form concentric spiral shapes. Compression is created by the interaction of the two scrolls, one is stationary while the other orbits or oscillates. Gas enters the outer opening as the orbiting scroll moves. With the continuous motion of the scroll the opening is shut and the gas is sealed in a pocket. As the scroll continues to orbit the gas is compressed into smaller pockets, moving closer and closer to the center. Maximum pressure is reached at the chamber’s center.
