1. World Chiller and Air-side Equipment Market - 2021
According to JARN’s database, worldwide chiller demand in 2021 approached US$ 8.89 billion, up 9.9% compared with 2020. The major chiller markets are China, Europe, and the United States accounting for 32.2, 19.8, and 14.6% of the world market, respectively. Global demand for air-side equipment increased by 7.2% from 2020 to US$ 7.75 billion.

2. The United States
JARN estimates that the market value was about US$ 1.3 billion, up 3.0% compared with 2020. These chiller trends, namely larger capacities and higher prices, have continued for about five years. The U.S. AHU demand in 2021 was US$ 1.9 billion, which surpassed the total market value of chillers. The majority of AHUs are custom-made or semicustom-made types according to the customers’ requests, and there are few standard types.

3. China
JARN estimated that Chinese chiller market increased to US$ 2.86 billion, a year-on-year increase of about 15.0%. Chinese air-side equipment market also increased to 1.02 billion, with 15.0% increase compared with 2020. This good performance throughout the year was mainly due to a large number of construction projects that resumed after having stagnated during the pandemic, coupled with the pull of new infrastructure projects and the active performances of the biopharmaceutical, electronics, and other industries.

4. EUROPE
The European market for chillers with capacities above 50 kW in 2021 achieved exceptional year-on-year growth of 21% and approached €1.49 billion (about US$ 1.75 billion), after a year-on-year fall of 5.9% in 2020 due to pandemic related restrictions. As for AHUs, after a year-on-year decline of 2.8% in 2020, the market recovered with 8.2% year-on-year growth and reached €2.44 billion (about US$ 2.87 billion).
