1. Daikin to Strengthen Production in the Americas with a New Plant in Mexico
On June 28, 2022, Daikin Comfort Technologies North America (DNA, former Goodman) announced that it will build a 70,000-m2 factory. Built next to the existing factory of Daikin Manufacturing Mexico (DMMX), a subsidiary of Daikin Applied Americas (DAA), in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, the new factory is planned to be fully operational in April 2024, and will benefit from an estimated investment of US$ 230 million.

2. UK Supports Development of Innovative Heat Pump Solutions
The UK government set up the Heat Pump Ready Programme, part of the £1 billion (about US$ 1.1 billion) Net Zero Innovation Portfolio, which supports the development of innovative solutions across the heat pump sector. Heat pumps are a key solution for decarbonizing homes and will be critical for meeting the UK’s commitment to achieving net zero by 2050.

3. Asian HVAC&R Manufacturers Showcase Sustainable Solutions at IFA2022
IFA2022, the world’s largest consumer electronics show, was held from September 2 to 6 at Messe Berlin, Germany. It was the first face-to-face event in three years, attracting over 161,000 visitors, and offering IFA Virtual. This year’s exhibits focused on sustainability in addition to smart home solutions. Seamless experiences using connectivity devices also attracted attention as a major topic. Among global leading 1,100 exhibitors from 46 regions, Asian manufacturers in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry also showcased sustainable and smart home solutions.

4. Researchers Announce AC Prototype That Uses Solid Refrigerant
A group of researchers led by Jarad Mason, Ph.D., of Harvard University, presented a report at the fall meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) on a prototype device that uses solid refrigerants to cool a space. Traditional air conditioners cycle refrigerant under pressure between liquid and gas phases. One drawback of this cycle is the potential for refrigerant, a potent greenhouse gas, to leak into the atmosphere and contribute to global warming.

5. Heat Pump Demand in Europe Stimulates Production in China
According to China Customs statistics, soaring demand for heat pumps in Europe has led China to see the export value of heat pumps reach RMB 3.62 billion (about US$ 530.2 million), increasing by 63.2% year on year. According to the calculation standard of China Customs, China saw the export volume of air-to-water (ATW) heat pumps to Europe rise to 1.061 million units in 2021, accounting for 78.1% of the total export volume of ATW heat pumps from China. Chinese manufacturers have made systematic inroads in the heat pump field
