Researchers Announce AC Prototype That Uses Solid Refrigerant

A group of researchers led by Jarad Mason, Ph.D., of Harvard University, presented a report at the fall meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) on a prototype device that uses solid refrigerants to cool a space. Traditional air conditioners cycle refrigerant under pressure between l iquid and gas phases. One drawback of this cycle is the potential for refrigerant, a potent greenhouse gas, to leak into the atmosphere and contribute to global warming.
