1. World Refrigeration Equipment Market – 2022, EUROPE, Refrigerant Trends
The EU is actively promoting the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and the F-gas phase-down is picking up speed. Natural refrigerants such as CO2, propane (R290), and NH3 are a key focus in the refrigeration industry, which is phasing out F-gases faster than the air conditioning sector.
Europe is actively promoting natural refrigerants to replace existing R404A and R134a. The shift to natural refrigerants offers a huge business opportunity for system components including reciprocating and other types of compressors which adopt such refrigerants.

German chancellor Olaf Scholz recently visited Viessmann’s headquarters in Allendorf, Germany, and was particularly interested in the production of state-of-the-art heat pumps. Heat pump technology will be one of the most important drivers for the success of the energy transition and the reduction of energy dependency. Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, “I have seen high-tech and state-of-the art technologies that create heating and protect the climate. There is no doubt that this is a very important project – not only for Viessmann, but also for the German government, people, and the entire world.
