1. Daikin India’s 3rd R&D Center in India
Daikin India announced on August 17 its plans for its third research and development (R&D) center in India at Neemrama, Rajasthan in the North Indian state of Rajasthan. Spread over 24,000 m2, it will employ more than 250 engineers dedicated to R&D of tailor-made products for Indian consumers. The new R&D center will have 22 testing facilities and labs to increase Daikin’s manufacturing competitiveness in the export market. Set up with an investment of INR 5 billion (about US$ 63 million), it will be operational from 2023.

2. The Global R32 AC Market – 2021 Overview
The overall global air conditioner market achieved a slight increase in 2021 compared with 2020. However, in case of the air conditioners using mildly-flammable (A2L) refrigerant R32, the overall global R32 air conditioner market achieved almost 10% year-on-year growth in 2021. The number of countries in which R32 models form the mainstream of the split-type room air conditioner (RAC) market continues to increase, mainly in Asia, Oceania, and Europe. In 2021, the penetration of R32 models in the overall global split-type RAC market including Japan is estimated to have reached nearly 60%

3. Midea Launches First Brand Campaign in U.S.
Midea has launched its first brand campaign for the United States, featuring comedian Sam Richardson as its fictional ‘Chief Idea Officer’ or CIO. In a series of promotional video spots, CIO Richardson points out various innovations that Midea home appliances (washer, dehumidifier and window air conditioner) offer consumers while taking credit for them as ‘my idea’.

4. Epta Provides Sustainable Approach to e-Shopping
In 2011, Epta, a commercial refrigeration specialist in Italy, launched Click & Collect, an efficient purchasing method that allows the customer to purchase food and non-food products by clicking then collecting from a refrigerated locker. In France, the Click & Collect method was launched in Paris, then spread to the rest of the country. In early 2020, it already accounted for 7% of total sales. Over the same period in Italy, this method of consumption represented 9% of purchases and is currently stable. In response to a fast-expanding market, Epta proposes #EPTABricks, a refrigerated locker system, comprising refrigerated cabinets intended for the large-scale retail sector.

5. ATW Heat Pumps Show Strong Growth in the First Half of the Year in China
According to statistics from ChinaIOL, China’s air-to-water (ATW) heat pump industry reached a total sales value of RMB 7.193 billion (about US$ 1.04 billion) in the first half of 2022, growing by nearly 30% year on year; domestic market sales accounted for a value of RMB 3.743 billion (about US$ 541.4 million), increasing by 6.82% year on year; while the export market scale came to RMB 3.45 billion (about US$ 499 million), rising by 68.2% year on year.
