4. U.S. Inflation Reduction Act to Boost Incentives for Clean Energy Technologies
On August 16, U.S. President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law. At roughly US$ 370 billion, the law includes the largest investment the U.S. government has ever made to fight climate change and has the potential to transform clean energy industries in the United States. Much of this funding will be available in the form of tax rebates and credits offered as incentives to get U.S. households and businesses to invest in clean energy technologies. For example, the Energy-Efficient Home Improvement Credit allows households to deduct up to 30% of the cost of qualifying energy-saving upgrades, including up to US$ 8,000 for installing a heat pump for space heating and cooling as well as other incentives for updating electrical panels and adding insulation and energy-efficient windows and doors.
