About 120 million air conditioners were sold worldwide in 2020. Sales more than tripled during the period spanning 1995 to 2020 according to estimates provided by the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA). The penetration rate of air conditioners in each country is increasing, but shows a large difference, varying between 5 and 90% depending on the country.
