1. Uncertain Resolution of Semiconductor Shortage - AC Industry also Suffers
As a result of JARN’s interviews with major global air conditioner manufacturers, if demand for air conditioners and heat pumps surges this year, production adjustments and production model changes may occur if semiconductor supply remains unresolved. It is also possible that the prices of air conditioners will increase due to higher costs. This year may be a challenging year for the global air conditioning industry.

2. Daikin Announces Name Change, Organizational Realignment in NA
Daikin is unifying its core Daikin, Goodman and Amana HVAC brands under a new top level corporate name and structure. This name change and new structure aligns brand sales efforts with the mission to enhance customer experiences and become North America’s #1 indoor comfort solutions provider. The name change and new organization structure become effective April 1, 2022. “We are uniting under a single name - Daikin Comfort Technologies - capturing a culture and identity that reflects one vision that will create an even stronger and more unified Daikin,” explains Satoru Akama, chief executive officer (CEO) for Daikin.

3. French Heat Pump Market in 2021
PAC&Clim’Info has released data on the French heat pump market in 2021. Data show that sales of air-to-water (ATW) heat pumps boomed, reaching 267,221 units, up a staggering 52.5% compared with 2020, which was negatively impacted by the pandemic. Sales of heat pumps used to heat domestic hot water (DHW) reached 150,615 units in 2021, indicating a record 36.5% year-on-year increase. Single-family homes accounted for a large proportion of sales. Sales of single-split and multisplit types of air-to-air (ATA) heat pumps rose to 837,629 units in 2021, indicating slight 3% year-on-year growth.
