Amid restrictions on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, key current technology topics in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are: improving the energy efficiency of equipment and systems, restrictions on the use of high global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants, and shifting from fossil fuel combustion boilers to heat pumps for space heating.
As shown in Fig. 1, the energy consumption of HVAC systems generally accounts for more than 40% of total energy consumption in commercial buildings.
