1. Daikin Develops a New Refrigerant for EV Air Conditioning
Daikin has developed D1V-140, a refrigerant blend for battery electric vehicle (BEV) air conditioning. Daikin described the characteristics of this new refrigerant during a lecture titled ‘New Refrigerant for Battery Electric Vehicles Using Heat Pumps’ at the second IIR International Conference on HFO Refrigerants and Blends (HFO2021). The new refrigerant developed by Daikin reduces its environmental impact as well as significantly improves the heat pump performance of BEV air conditioners, which has been an issue up to date.

2. Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning Meets Diversified Needs with Its Broad Product Portfolio
Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning celebrated its fifth anniversary last year. JARN interviewed Shoji Akiyama, chief executive officer (CEO) of the company, to hear about the current status of major businesses, new products, development of systems, etc.

3. HFO2021 Enhances Knowledge of HFO Refrigerants & Blends
HFO2021, the second IIR International Conference on HFO Refrigerants and Blends was scheduled to be held on June 16 to 18, 2021 at the Daikin Technology and Innovation Center (TIC), then was changed to a virtual conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the conference, there were presentations on the latest results of research conducted on hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerants such as characteristics, safety, and flammability as well as examples of new systems and equipment using HFO blends with low global warming potential (GWP) values, and then discussions on these results were held.

4. Wieland Acquires the Business of the Miller Company
The Miller Company customers can expect Wieland to continue to meet their needs for high-quality strip made of copper, copper alloys and special alloys in North America and across the world through expanded access to Wieland’s world class manufacturing capabilities, reliable distribution network (consisting of over 75 facilities and 8,000 employees), and excellent customer service.

5. Haier Built a Smart Home Appliance Factory in Russia
In early June, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Haier smart home appliance factory was held at the Haier Industrial Park in Cherny on the bank of the Kama River in Russia. It is reported that this is the fourth Haier smart home appliance factory in Russia, following Haier’s refrigerator, washing machine, and television factories. The Haier smart home appliance factory is expected to begin operation in the second quarter of 2022, with a design including one refrigerator production line and two freezer production lines, boasting total production volume of over 1 million units of refrigerators and freezers, achieving a scale effect.
