Due to the spread of the pandemic, the United States, which has the world’s largest cumulative number of infected people and deaths, recorded a gross domestic product (GDP) with negative year-on-year growth of 3.5% in 2020 as a preliminary figure, the largest decrease since World War II. Within the GDP, gross private domestic investment fell sharply by 5.3% year on year. Within the gross private domestic investment, non-residential investment decreased by 4.0% year on year, while residential investment increased by 5.9% year on year, demonstrating a big difference between the non-residential and residential segments.
