1. Daikin to Build Cutting-edge Development Complex in Ghent, Belgium
Daikin Europe (DENV) is to build a new EMEA Development Center (EDC) in Ghent, Belgium. The current EDC headquarters in Ostend and the branch in Ghent have become too small. The office area will cover around 13,000 m², and roughly 500 employees will work there. DENV expects to be employing around 380 employees at the EDC by 2025. Office space will be available for employees from UGent and other research companies. Daikin plans to inaugurate the test building in May 2023, and to operate the office area by the end of 2023.

2. AHR Expo 2021 Innovation Awards Announced
Usually, each year, the winning companies and their products are honored during an awards ceremony held during AHR Expo. In addition, every year, the AHR Expo Innovation Awards winners in all 10 categories compete to be named AHR Expo Product of the Year. This award is usually announced at the event in a special ceremony to honor the winners. With the 2021 show cancelled, Show Management and cosponsors ASHRAE and Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) have decided to announce the Product of the Year winner online and presented the honor to Infinitum Electric’s IEq that won in the Building Automation Category.

3. Innovative Sensors Enable Belimo to Differentiate and Provide Additional Customer Value
Belimo attained 100 million units of actuators at the beginning of 2020. At the end of this memorable year, JARN interviewed Reto Raimann, global business development manager, Belimo, to hear about the background of this milestone and other successful business results achieved by Belimo such as the sensor business.

4. Indonesia and India Strictly Control AC Imports
On August 28, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade tightened the import regulations for room air conditioners (RACs) with capacities of 3 hp and less in addition to some consumer products such as shoes and bicycles. On October 15, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the umbrella of the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, amended the import policy and prohibited the imports of air conditioners charged with refrigerants as of the same day. Prohibited RACs are split type and self-contained types such as window type, wall-mounted type, ceiling type, and floor-standing type.

5. East China Boosts ATW Water Heater Sales in Real Estate Market
The East China region installed 109,000 units of ATW heat pump water heaters related to real estate equipment projects between January and August 2020, growing by 53.2% year on year. The top three cities were all in the Zhejiang Province of East China: Hangzhou, Shaoxing, and Wenzhou. Hangzhou, which installed 60,000 units, ranked at the top, with 77.7% year-on-year growth, Shaoxing and Wenzhou respectively installed more than 10,000 units with 114.1% and 49.1% year-on-year growth respectively.
