The Spanish economy in 2019 continued to experience a year-on-year moderate slowdown in growth, due to the worsening international economic context, with varying degrees of slowdowns ranging from a moderate level in China to a sharp decline in the euro zone. However, Spain achieved 1.9% growth in gross domestic product (GDP), a higher growth rate than in other European Union (EU) countries, as indicated in Fig. 1. In 2019, the rate of job creation maintained a similar level to that in previous years, but was more moderate.
