5. Musings on HVAC&R- Air Conditioning and Quality
Many components and parts are used in air conditioners. Those that make up the refrigeration cycle include compressors, four-way valves, expansion valves, various tanks, and heat exchangers. In addition, there are fans and motors to blow air, and controllers to control the operation of each component and part. All these components can cause failures of the air conditioning system. In the past, there were many failures of parts related to refrigeration cycles, but in recent years, there have been increasing numbers of failures of parts related to controllers, along with the sophistication of controllers, the shift to inverter driven compressors and direct current (DC) motors, and diversification of sensors for temperature, pressure, radiation, etc.
