IEC Proposes Raising HC Charges in RACs
2020-10-04
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) working group proposed a new safety standard, which is vital to maximizing emission reductions from a global phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) under the Montreal Protocol’s Kigali Amendment. If approved by a vote of IEC member countries, the proposal is on course to be adopted in the international standard for air conditioning, ‘IEC 60335-2-40: Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 2-40: Particular requirements for electrical heat pumps, air-conditioners and dehumidifiers’, allowing greater use of climate-friendly and energy efficient refrigerants in room air conditioning (RAC) systems around the world.
