1. World ATW Heat Pump Market - OVERVIEW
In 2019, the global ATW heat pump demand, including China, reached 3.42 million units, rising by 25.8% year on year. The major markets are concentrated in China, Europe, and Japan, accounting for 62.8%, 18.1%, and 14.9% of the global market respectively. Many countries have enforced policies to boost sales of heat pumps, offering great business opportunities for ATW heat pumps and leading to double-digit growth in the heat pump market for four consecutive years.

2. Europe
Europe saw the highest growth rate and reached an all-time high for the seventh consecutive year. Rapid growth was attributed to an accelerated phase-out of oil-fired boilers and low-efficiency gas-fired boilers in Europe. JARN estimates that the European ATW heat pump market reached 618,600 units in 2019, growing by 36.8% compared with 2018. Of this total, France, the largest ATW market in Europe, accounted for 47.4%, followed by Germany and Italy. Together, these three countries account for 66.4% of the entire European ATW heat pump market.

3. Japan
Japan has a mature ATW heat pump market which has a long sales history. According to statistics from the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA), Japan’s ATW heat pump market in 2019 reached 510,159 units, up 7.3% from 2018. Japan was one of the first countries to deploy ATW heat pump technology, and has accumulated a lot of technological experience in the field of heat pump technology as it started research on using heat pumps for heat energy storage and clean energy a long time ago.

4. China
During recent years, the subsidy policies implemented by provincial governments have supported the development of China’s ATW heat pump market. However, the ups and downs in subsidies have caused big fluctuations in the market. In 2019, the ATW heat pump industry was back on an ascending track, following a decline in 2018. Demand in the Chinese market reached 2.15 million units in 2019, an increase of 28%. China’s ATW heat pump market is divided by application into space heating, water heating, and drying, with 50.8%, 42.2%, and 7.0% shares of the total ATW market in 2019, respectively.
