China Scroll Market Shrinks with Increase in Larger Capacity Models

In 2019, air conditioning scroll compressors saw a record-low production and sales volume in China. According to ChinaIOL.com, sales in the 2019 fiscal year came to 3.4 million units, dropping by 9.8% year on year. By capacity, scroll compressors between 3 and 7 hp decreased their market share to 32.5%, due to being replaced by twin-rotary compressors. In particular, 5 hp models had a decreased market share, as a large quantity of rotary compressors were used in the unitary systems. Models in the 7 to 15 hp range suffered a 6.1% drop. In this range, the 10 to 12 hp inverter models are mainly applied on variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems and 12 hp non-inverter models on modular chillers.
