1. JRAIA Promoting Safe Use and Recovery of Refrigerants
Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA) is marking its 70th anniversary. On this anniversary, JARN interviewed Tetsuji Okada, president, JRAIA, to hear about its activities focusing on refrigerants.

2. Bangkok RHVAC 2019 Expecting Record-high Numbers of Exhibitors & Visitors
Of the four-day duration of Bangkok RHVAC 2019 and Bangkok E&E 2019, trade days will be on September 25–27, and 10,000 visitors including buyers, importers, manufacturers, traders, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and department store representatives are expected to visit the show. Meanwhile, Public Day will be on September 28, and 4,000 visitors including trade visitors, local consumers, and foreign tourists are expected to flock to the event.

3. Western Europe Hit by Second Searing Heat Wave this Summer
Following a one-week heat wave late June, Europe was hit by a ferocious but shorter-lived heat wave that peaked on July 25. The Belgian town of Kleine Brogel hit 39.9℃, the hottest since 1833. The southern Dutch city of Eindhoven broke a 75-year-old national record, with a high of 39.3℃. In Germany, a new record of 40.5℃ was set in Geilenkirchen, near the Belgian and Dutch borders. Luxembourg experienced temperatures reaching 40℃. Much of France sweltered too. The TV weather channel reported that the temperature in several areas had climbed above 40℃. Record temperatures were recorded in Paris, Lille, and Strasbourg. The mercury hit a record 43.6℃ in Saint-Maur, in the Paris area, and reached 41.5℃ in Lille. A new record was broken in Paris, where the mercury hit 42.6℃ on July 25.

4. YORK Wuxi to Invest US$ 62 Million to Build New Plant
On June 10, Johnson Controls (JCI) signed a contract with Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND) for an expansion project involving research and development (R&D) and manufacturing of YORK brand products. YORK plans to invest US$ 62 million in WND to purchase a 61,364m2 site for building a new plant. With the new plant, YORK is expected to increase its sales by RMB 2 billion (US$ 284 million).

5. All Things Comfort
For human beings, the temperature environment is an important factor with life and death implications. In 2003, 15,000 people died in a heat wave that swept over the European continent. In June 2019, another deadly heat wave struck Europe. In the last several years, Japan has also seen deaths from heat stroke on the scale of 600 to 1,700 people. The purpose of air conditioning is to artificially create a constant, appropriate thermal environment for people, and a thermal environment in which people feel comfortable.
