Widespread Oil-free Technologies

Since the advent of a small directdrive oil-free centrifugal compressor in the early 2000s, many leading heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) manufacturers have developed and commercialized large oil-free compressors/chillers using various types of refrigerants applying their own technologies or in collaboration with bearing suppliers. These are summarized in Table 2.
