In 2017, ASEAN achieved a GDP of up to US$ 18.83 trillion, making this region the world’s fifth-largest economy trailing the United States, the EU, China, and Japan. According to the Asian Development Bank, Southeast Asian countries will maintain 5% growth over the next few years, a level that is much higher than the 2.4% growth rate of the global economy. In terms of GDP per capita, Southeast Asia saw 3% growth in 2016, and Indonesia even hit a level of up to 7%.
