New Refrigerants with Low GWPs for Chillers – Low and Medium Pressure

 In October 2016, the 197 Parties to the Montreal Protocol finally agreed to an amendment governing the phase-down of the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) including R134a to 15% by 2036 in developed countries, which incited chiller manufacturers to shift to the use of alternative refrigerants with lower global warming potentials (GWPs).
