Chillers are largely classified as aircooled chillers rejecting condensing heat from heat exchangers with air-coils, and water-cooled chillers rejecting heat from a cooling tower through cooling water. When rejected heat from condensers is used for heating by reversing the refrigerant flow, the chillers can be used as heat pumps.
