1. IIR conference on HFOs: Energy Efficiency and Safety in the Limelight
For the first time, the IIR organized an international conference on hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs). It took place on September 2-5, 2018 in Birmingham, the United Kingdom. Energy efficiency and safety were at the heart of the conference. Of the 68 papers presented, 38 addressed energy efficiency issues through performance evaluation of refrigerating systems using HFOs and HFO blends in various applications, and 22 raised the safety issue linked to the use of these A2L (mildly flammable) refrigerants.

2. Haier Starts Construction of Large Industrial Park in Tatarstan
In June 2018, the Chinese company Haier began construction of a large industrial park Heier Rus in the town of Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan. With investment of US$ 1 billion and an area of 124.9 hectares, the industrial park is planned to open in July 2019 and will create 5,000 jobs at 12 plants to produce refrigeration equipment and sophisticated home appliances.

3. Daikin North America Launches New Daikin Fit Systems
A smart HVAC system, Daikin Fit combines the best features and performance of ductless-style condensing units with the ability to connect to traditional ducted systems. This brings homeowners the advantages of Daikin technology, including high-performing inverter compressors with cabinet designs that are smaller, lighter and quieter than traditional unitary outdoor condensing units.

4. Ziehl-Abegg High Data Credibility Endorsed by the U.S. Testing Association
The Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) has given its endorsement of the consistent credibility of the German manufacturer’s data on air performance and energy consumption for energy-saving EC fans for the first time in Europe. At its headquarters in Germany, the company operates the world’s largest combined test chamber for fans.

5. Chinese AC Sales Grow by 16.6% in RY 2018
According to data from the State Information Center, retail sales of air conditioners in the domestic market in the 2018 refrigeration year (RY, end of August 2018) reached 65.53 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16.6%. This year’s market had many factors worthy of attention, including the strong performance of the rural market, the deepening of product structure adjustment, and an improvement in industry innovation.
