1. AC Markets in Japan and Europe Heat Up as Temperatures Soar
Heat waves have turned up the temperature on room air conditioner (RAC) demand in Japan and Europe this summer. The summer RAC sales competition in 2018 has also seen the heat turned up with special demand.

2. JRAIA to Focus on Mildly Flammable Refrigerant Compatibility in HVAC Systems
In late August, JARN visited the office of the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA) to meet with Tetsuji Okada, president of JRAIA, and hear about air conditioner market trends in 2018 as well as the latest developments with next-generation refrigerants.

3. Emerson Raising the Standard of Refrigeration Reliability
Launched five years ago, the Copeland Scroll K5 compressor has set a high standard for efficiency and reliability in mission-critical refrigeration applications. Compared with semi-hermetic models, the K5’s compact design enhances application flexibility and helps improve serviceability. The K5 line has been expanded to cover small-to large-capacity requirements in medium and low temperature applications and is certified for use with low-GWP hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) alternatives R448A and R449A.

4. TICA’s First GHP VRF Installed in Taiyuan, China
Recently, TICA won the bid for the Taiyuan Guoxin Energy Project in Shanxi Province with its gas heat pump (GHP) variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system. It features heating under ultralow temperatures without defrosting, a high energy efficiency ratio, and lower electricity consumption. Moreover, natural gas as a clean energy source can greatly alleviate the smog and carbon dioxide problems and the shift to natural gas will greatly improve the air quality in the northern region. With these advantages, China’s GHP VRF market is expected to develop according to changes in China’s energy structure.

5. Cumulative Shipments of Eco Cute Water Heaters Exceed 6 Million Units in Japan
Since 2001 when Eco Cute was commercialized for the first time in the world, various types of models that meet customers’ needs have been placed on the market, and include a model with multiple functions including floor heating, a space-saving model, etc. As a result, Eco Cute water heaters have shown steady growth in shipments, now surpassing the 6 million level in cumulative shipments.
