AHRI Releases April 2018 U.S. Heating and Cooling Equipment Shipment Data

Residential Storage Water Heaters

U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for April 2018 increased 13.6 percent, to 399,822 units, up from 352,064 units shipped in April 2017. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 12.7 percent in April 2018, to 363,953 units, up from 322,917 units shipped in April 2017.
 

Year-to-date U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters increased 4.7 percent, to 1,580,270, compared to 1,508,708 shipped during that same period in 2017. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 3.3 percent year-to-date, to 1,468,015 units, compared to 1,420,475 shipped during the same period in 2017.
 


Commercial Storage Water Heaters
Commercial gas storage water heater shipments increased 11.9 percent in April 2018, to 8,539 units, up from 7,630 units shipped in April 2017. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 9.6 percent in April 2018, to 12,516 units, up from 11,416 units shipped in April 2017.



Year-to-date U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters increased 1.6 percent, to 33,913 units, compared with 33,391 units shipped during the same period in 2017. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 3.4 percent, to 47,389 units, up from 45,838 units shipped during the same period in 2017.


Warm Air Furnaces
U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for April 2018 increased 9.1 percent, to 230,560 units, up from 211,293 units shipped in April 2017. Oil warm air furnace shipments increased 42.5 percent, to 1,766 units in April 2018, up from 1,239 units shipped in April 2017.
 


Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased 11.6 percent, to 970,701 units, compared with 869,833 units shipped during the same period in 2017. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces increased 4.5 percent, to 9,546 units, compared with 9,136 units shipped during the same period in 2017.
 


Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps
U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 732,858 units in April 2018, up 5.6 percent from 694,089 units shipped in April 2017. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 4.6 percent, to 489,558 units, up from 467,884 units shipped in April 2017. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 7.6 percent, to 243,300 units, up from 226,205 units shipped in April 2017.
 


Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 6.4 percent, to 2,559,978, up from 2,406,068 units shipped in April 2017. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 2.7 percent, to 1,591,978 units, up from 1,549,802 units shipped during the same period in 2017. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 13.1 percent, to 968,000, up from 856,266 units shipped during the same period in 2017.
