1. Mitsubishi Electric Opens Its New RAC Factory in Turkey
On February 8, 2018, Mitsubishi Electric held a ceremony for its new factory for the development and manufacture of room air conditioners (RACs) in Manisa, Turkey. The new facility will target an annual production of 500,000 sets (indoor and outdoor units) for Turkey and European market.

2. Spanish Promotion Plan of Heat Pumps Continues in 2018
In 2018, the Spanish association for manufacturers of Air Conditioning Equipment (AFEC) will continue the Heat Pump Promotion Plan that it started two years ago. This plan was jointly developed by AFEC and 23 of its member companies. One of the main plan objectives is to explain the benefits of using heat pump technology as an efficient way of heating, cooling, and providing domestic hot water, all from renewable energy sources.

3. Technical Trends of Rotary Compressors
Rotary compressors are the most commonly used compressors in daily life currently, with a high production volume around the world. Recently, rotary compressors and small-capacity scroll compressors have been in hot competition. Rotaries are used in many applications ranging from server cooling, residential and commercial air conditioning, and large modular chillers, to refrigeration and freezing equipment.

4. Honeywell Solstice N40 Adopting in Lotte Mart, South Korea
On February 26, Honeywell announced that its Solstice N40 (R448A) refrigerant is being installed in all Lotte Mart stores over the next seven years. This adoption makes Lotte Mart the first supermarket company in South Korea to implement Solstice N40, which is already in use in thousands of stores across Asia, Europe, and North America.

5. Chinese AC Inventory Adjustment May Occur in 2018
In 2017, retail sales of room air conditioners (RACs) surpassed RMB 193 billion (US$ 30 billion) in China, with 26.4% year-on-year growth on a value basis and 56 million units with 23.1% year-on-year growth on a volume basis. If RACs for construction projects are also included, the installation volume of RACs amounted to nearly 80 million units last year. Inventory volume in the RAC market reached 43 million units at the end of December 2017. An inventory adjustment trend may occur in 2018.
