1. Data center cooling
Data center operators are continuing to work to reduce data center power consumption. Since the power required for cooling by air conditioning equipment accounts for 30-50% of total data center power consumption, increasing this equipment’s efficiency can greatly contribute to reducing the power consumption of the data center as a whole.

2. Honeywell Starts up US$ 300 Million Automotive Refrigerant Plant in U.S.
Honeywell announced on May 16 that it has started commercial operations at its new manufacturing plant in Geismar, Louisiana, to meet the growing global demand for its next-generation mobile air conditioning refrigerant. With this start- up, the plant has become the world’s largest site for producing HFO-1234yf, sold commercially as Solstice yf.

3. Bitzer Developing Its Operations and Products on a Global Scale
At China Refrigeration 2017 (CRH 2017) expo, Mr. Gianni Parlanti, chief sales and marketing officer, presented Bitzer has expanded its presence in the world. Now the company has 14 production and sales bases as well as 47 sales and representative offices worldwide to support its customers in their own language for their ease.

4. Price of Refrigerants Increasing
The refrigerant price rises were mainly caused by increasing demand and limited production capacity. China’s total shipments of air conditioners for domestic and overseas markets reached 124 million units in 2016 and production continued to grow, driving demand for refrigerants. Refrigerant manufacturers have started to reopen some factories that had been shut down.

5. JCH Develops DXS Absorption Chiller
Johnson Controls - Hitachi Air Conditioning (JCH), a member of the Thermal Management Materials and Technology Research Association (Ther-MAT), has succeeded in developing a single-effect double-lift absorption chiller DXS that can recover heat with a temperature difference that is about twice as large as in the past by expanding the region of industrial and other waste heat temperatures to the low-temperature region.
