1. U.S. Manufacturing Industry’s Hollowing Out
At the beginning of December 2016, president-elect Donald Trump visited a plant in Indianapolis, Indiana operated by leading air conditioner manufacturer Carrier to announce an agreement struck with Carrier to revise its plans to relocate the plant to Mexico. But will this kind of political intervention in the manufacturing industry to protect jobs in the country ultimately lead to greater prosperity? Economic protectionism by one country invites similar protectionism in other countries, which can lead to contraction of the global economy.

2. Chemours Showcases Latest Opteon Refrigerant Solutions at Kobe Symposium
Chemours presented its latest refrigerant technology at the Kobe Symposium, demonstrating the bright future of their low global warming potential (GWP) hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) refrigerants. At the conference, Chemours showcased its Opteon portfolio of refrigerants for applications ranging from chillers and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) to waste heat recovery for heating and power.

3. ebm-papst Fans Set New Standards
Interviewed by JARN, Thomas Borst, managing director, Sales and Marketing, ebm-papst, stressed, “Here at Chillventa, our fans are one of the highlights and milestones in the launching of the products.”
Based on the latest HyBlade impeller technology, AxiCool fans have created new benchmarks on the evaporator and cooling unit market.

4. RAC Production and Sales Increase in October in China
In October 2016, 8.3 million room air conditioners (RACs) were produced, representing a year-on-year increase of 59.4%, and 7.18 million units were sold, a year-on-year increase of 38.9%.  Of these, 5.05 million units were sold domestically, a 59% rise compared to 2015, and 2.13 million units were exported, a yearon-year rise of 6.9%.  Domestic sales showed continued good performance from September. Several brands including, Aux, TCL, and Hisense reached a triple-digit increases. Midea, Gree, and Haier all posted double-digit growth.

5. Climaveneta and RC Group Begin Operation with New Name
On December 16, Mitsubishi Electric announced that Climaveneta and RC Group, which are wholly owned subsidiaries of MELCO Hydronics & IT Cooling, merged and began doing business as Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems S.p.A. on January 1, 2017.
