1. Alternative Refrigerants Update
The resumed 37th meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG 37) of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol was held in Vienna, Austria on July 15 and 16, 2016. The HVAC&R industry is primarily concerned with producing an amendment to the Protocol that defines a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) phasedown schedule, paving the way for the use of alternative refrigerants. No particular proposals were agreed on, but the Parties defined solutions designed to address a umber of implementation challenges and paved the way for the adoption of an amendment during the meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, in October.

2. Carrier Keeps Visitors Comfortable on the USS North Carolina
USS North Carolina, one of the U.S. most well-known historic battleships, recently received a refurbishment that included the installation of a Carrier variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heating and cooling solution.
A team of technicians from Jacksonville Heating Contractors installed a 20-ton heat recovery system, which provides heating and cooling for the wardroom, the guest bathroom, employees offices, and the catering room.

3. 2016 Eurovent Summit to Take Place in Poland’s Industrial Heartland
From September 27 to 30, 2016, the Eurovent Summit is going to take place in Krakow, Poland. Europe’s major gathering for key decision-makers in the area of indoor climate, process cooling, and food cold chain technologies provides a unique platform that thinks  ‘Beyond HVAC&R’  and connects around 400 industry leaders from Europe, the Middle East, Northern Africa, and international markets.

4. Panasonic Celebrates First Batch of E Series Scroll in Dalian
On July 19, Panasonic Appliances Compressor (Dalian) held the first delivery ceremony celebrating shipments of 1,000 units of E series scroll compressors. Senior managerial staff and representatives of each department attended the ceremony. The E series compressor is the new core power platform for air conditioners.

5. China’s Air Conditioner Inventory Drops to 30 Million Units in June
At the end of June, China’s air conditioner inventory decreased to 30 million units, which is quite a reasonable level in the air conditioner industry, down from 40 million units last year.
