1. Hot European summer spurs RAC Demand -Review of the Global AC Market in the First Half of 2016
Several regions around the world are being visited by heat waves this year. Europe is expected to have a hotter-than-usual summer this year, following the hot weather experienced last year. Room air conditioners (RACs) started selling in Southern Europe earlier in the year and demand rose dramatically.

2. AHRI, ASHRAE, DOE Partner to Fund Flammable Refrigerant Research
The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) are collaborating to fund vital research that will establish a more robust fact base about the properties and the use of flammable refrigerants.

3. Daikin Strategy around the World
Daikin formulated its Strategic Management Plan Fusion 20, targeting fiscal year 2020 (ending March 2021), at the beginning of June. On this occasion, JARN visited Daikin’s head office and interviewed Yoshihiro Mineno, senior executive officer, Daikin, to hear about its global business strategy.

4. Emerson to Sell Motors and Controls Businesses to Nidec
Emerson announced on August 17 that it has agreed to sell its motors and appliance controls businesses to Nidec. Over the past six months the company had undergone an evaluation of the potential for sale of the businesses. The resulting agreement reached with Nidec will provide a strong new U.S./North American presence for Nidec’s global motor and motor-related business.

5. Haier India to Expand Production Capacity Four-fold
On June 22, Haier announced that it intends to invest INR 4.9 billion (US$ 73 million) in the industrial park expansion project in Pune, Maharashtra, which is expected to be put into overall production in September 2017.  After having been put into operation, the expanded production base will be able to manufacture products from refrigerators and washing machines to air conditioners, water heaters, and TVs.
