* 2014 World Heat Pumps Market: Europe
The 2014 European ATW market, however, did not post growth in line with expectations, growing just 5% over 2013 to a scale of 232,000 units. Many countries in Europe are still beset by economic woes, on top of which prices for electricity are climbing while prices for oil and gas are falling. These conditions have held back market growth over the past two years.

1. Alternative Refrigerants for Low-temp Applications
In a final rule issued last summer, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it would remove HFCs R404A and R507A from the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) list in 2016, but the timing has been pushed back after industry made a number of appeals. Now the EPA has announced that these refrigerants would be banned in supermarket refrigeration equipment from January 2017. A number of alternative refrigerants for low-temperature applications have been proposed and advocated by various groups.

2. Tecumseh to be Acquired by an Affiliate of Mueller & Atlas
Tecumseh Products Company, a leading global manufacturer of compressors and related products, in conjunction with Mueller and Atlas announced on August 5 that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement under which an affiliate of Mueller and Atlas will acquire Tecumseh in a transaction valued at approximately US$ 123 million, including the assumption of net debt.

3. LU-VE Now a Public Listed Company
Until recently still entirely in private hands Italian manufacturer LU-VE became a listed public company with its stock market launch in July. The aim is to finance the expansion of the company’s presence and activities in Italy as well as in the Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, and China. New plants will be set up or existing facilities acquired in the program of expansion.

4. All Aluminum Microchannel Heat Exchangers
Originating in the automotive air conditioner industry, MCHEs have become the standard heat exchanger for mobile air conditioners due to their high heat-transfer capacity and light weight. For stationary HVAC&R systems, the traditional fin-and-tube heat exchanger still dominates the market. However, MCHEs have experienced rapid growth in the stationary HVAC&R industry due to advantages they offer in environmental performance and higher efficiency compared to traditional fin-and-tube heat exchangers.

5. Sales Channel of Mini VRFs Diversifies
With the expansion of residential central air conditioning product lines such as mini variable refrigerant flow (mini VRF) systems, sales channels are getting diversified. In addition to conventional channels such as dealers, agents, and franchised stores, the home appliance retailers and real estate developers also become an important channel for mini VRFs
