On a unit basis, the air conditioner market grew from 3.8 million units in 2013 to about 4 million units in 2014. This includes window air conditioners (605,000 units), hi-wall splits (2,445,000 units), floor-standing (15,000 units), cassettes (80,000 units), inverter air conditioners (200,000 units), ducted and packaged units (90,000 units or 630,000 tons), and VRF (25,000 units on an outdoor unit basis).

1. ICA Heat Exchanger Design Software CoilDesigner
The International Copper Association (ICA) announced that simulations of the inner-grooves of MicroGroove copper tubes can now be accomplished using CoilDesigner, a proprietary heat exchanger simulation and design optimization tool developed by the University of Maryland.

2. Carrier, Midea to Expand Strategic Partnership
Carrier Asia is acquiring a minority stake in Chongqing Midea General Refrigeration Equipment (CQ Midea), an extension of its long-term strategic partnership with Midea Group, China’s leading manufacturer and wholesaler of electric appliances.

3. LU-VE Presents CO2 Research at IIR Conference
Stefano Filippini, director of the R&D Department of LU-VE Group, has been honored at IIR Conference. Mr. Filippini presented the results of work undertaken together with Umberto Merlo, manager of the LU-VE Laboratory, entitled ‘New generation of air-cooled heat exchangers for CO2 applications’.

4. Sanhua Mexico Plant Put into Trial Operation
In middle April, the first batch of 60 microchannel condensers produced by Sanhua Mexico Industry rolled off its production line. At full-scale operation, the plant will have monthly production capacity of 13,000 units of microchannel heat exchangers (MCHEs).
