* World Compressor Market: Reciprocating Compressors
Demand for semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors for air conditioning applications surpassed 170,000 units in 2014, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%. Demand for refrigeration applications remained unchanged from the previous year. Demand for heat pump water heaters saw solid increases. Demand for ATW products continued to grow, especially in Europe, China, and Japan. In addition, demand for hermetic reciprocating compressors for household refrigerators also grew due to rising demand in emerging countries.

1. Panasonic Air-Conditioner Company Embarks on a New Trip
Panasonic has announced changes to its organizational structure and senior management team, which will take effect April 1, in an effort to strengthen its air conditioner business. The Air- Conditioner Business Division under the Appliances Company will be upgraded to the Air-Conditioner Company within the Appliances Company, with expanded authority in the areas of investment and human resources. The main products handled by the Air-Conditioner Company are residential air conditioners, commercial air conditioners including VRFs, and Eco Cute air- to-water heat pumps using CO2 refrigerant.

2. EPA Approves New Climate-Friendly Refrigerants
As part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, the U.S. Environ-mental Protection Agency (EPA) is increasing the options for refrigerants used in various kinds of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in the United States that offer better climate protection without harming the ozone layer. This final action addresses refrigerants under the Climate Action Plan that calls on EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) Program to identify and approve additional climate-friendly chemicals.

3. R32 Air Conditioners in India
In their quest for environmentally friendly substitutes for R22, room air conditioner (RAC) manufacturers in India have been trying different strategies and adopting different HFCs. Godrej Appliances is the only manufacturer that has come out with a model using R290. Japanese air conditioner companies operating in India are beginning to show a preference for R32.

4. ATW Heat Pump Sales Soar
Uniclima has just released data concerning sales of many types of HVAC equipment in France in 2014. The report demonstrates a number of contrasts and one very bright spot: sales of air-to-water (ATW) heat pumps soared in 2014.

5. CRAA/Eurovent ’Air Quality and Energy Efficiency Forum’ during CR Expo
Eurovent is teaming up with CRAA, the China Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Industry Association, to bring key European HVAC&R and climate innovators, thinkers and decision-makers to Shanghai’s China Refrigeration Expo at their CRAA/Eurovent ’Air Quality and Energy Efficiency Forum’ (8 April 2015, 13-16:30h, Meeting room: E2-M17). Eurovent and CRAA are major partners in raising the global awareness on air quality aspects. All CR Expo visitors are cordially invited to attend the event.
