* World Compressor Market: Compressor Market Overview
Affected by the global economy and weather, the 2014 global room air conditioner (RAC) market finished largely unchanged from the previous year without recording marked growth. Meanwhile, amid increasing urbanization in emerging markets, the commercial and light commercial air conditioner markets posted solid growth. This pushed up demand for scroll, screw, and centrifugal compressors for air conditioning by 5.9%, 6.2%, and 12.2%, respectively. Emerging markets are also pushing up demand for reciprocating, scroll, and screw compressors for refrigeration, and these segments saw growth of 2.1%, 4.5%, and 12.4%, respectively.

1. Ductless and Ducted ACs on Stage -- Report of the 2015 AHR Expo, Chicago 
This year’s AHR Expo highlighted a competition of sorts between ducted and ductless air conditioner culture. The competition between these two air conditioner cultures is set to intensify in the United States, the world’s largest air conditioner market.

2. JCI and Hitachi Sign Definitive Agreement to Form Global HVAC JV
On January 21, Johnson Controls (JCI), Hitachi, and Hitachi Appliances entered into a definitive agreement for their global joint venture (JV) at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The new JCI-Hitachi JV will allow both companies to deliver the most diverse technology portfolio in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry.

3. Eurovent & APIC Forum at Climate World 2015 Expo
For the first time within the business program of the exhibition, a Eurovent and APIC forum will be held under the theme of ‘Energy Efficient Solutions and Air Quality.’ The representatives of leading European HVAC&R associations of manufacturers will share their experiences and present the best European energy-efficient solutions.

4. Emerson Announces Management Appointments
Emerson announced the following senior management appointments and changes, effective after Emerson’s February 3, 2015 board of directors meeting.  Edgar (Ed) M. Purvis has been appointed the chief operating officer for Emerson.  He also took up a post as new chairman of the Air- Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) in November 2014.

5. Haier Oil-free Centrifugal Chiller on Digital Billboard in Times Square
On January 28, Haier magnetic levitation oil-free centrifugal chiller landed at Times Square, and launched an energy-saving challenge to all central air conditioning brands in the world.
