1. Review of the 2014 Global Air Conditioner Market
JARN interviewed leading air conditioner manufacturers to investigate air conditioner market trends over 2014. The global air conditioner market showed a slight growth year on year in 2014 due to lower potential growth rates in emerging and developing markets and adverse weather conditions in key markets.

2. MHI Holds Distributors Meeting in Thailand
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries-Mahajak Air Conditioners (MACO), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) covering Asia, the Middle East and Africa as its sales territory, held a distributors meeting in Thailand for two days from December 12 to 13 attended by 61 distributors from 24 countries within the territory.

3. UTC Acquires CIAT
The acquisition of French HVAC giant CIAT by United Technologies Corporation (UTC) of the United States was finalized on January 5 2015. CIAT is based in Culoz in the Ain region of France and following the takeover is now part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, the division handling building technologies such as HVAC, elevators and fire protection.

4. AHRI Launches Two New Certification Programs
AHRI announced on December 2, two new certification programs: Central Station Air-handling Unit Casings (AHUC) and Liquid-to-Liquid Brazed & Fusion Bonded Plate Heat Exchangers (LLBF). The two new programs join AHRI’s 41 other programs, all of which verify the performance ratings for more than 40 product categories via random selection and annual testing at third-party laboratories

5. 2015 - Critical Year for Refrigerant Substitution in China
According to the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, year 2015 will be critical for refrigerant substitution since HCFCs are scheduled to be phased out by 10% by the end of 2015, and low-carbon refrigerants such as R32 and CO2 are entering into the market.
