According to BSRIA, the overall Southeast Asia chiller market recorded a 4.3% year-on-year increase in value, from US$ 327.8 million in 2012 to US$ 341.9 million in 2013. Reciprocating, screw, and scroll chillers and absorption chillers recorded contractions over the previous year.

1. China: High Inventory Levels in Huge AC Market
September is the beginning of the new refrigeration year in China. The market, however, has been experiencing a price war since October. The lowest price for an inverter air conditioner is now RMB 2,499 (US$ 407), 30% lower than last year. The media is calling it the worst price-cutting in 30 years.

2. R290 RAC Sales Exceed 100,000 Units in India
The cumulative sales of air conditioners using R290 (propane) refrigerant in India reached the 100,000 units milestone in October 2014. Godrej Appliances, a part of Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing, had started the production of India’s first commercially available split air conditioners using R290 on March 31, 2012.

3. R450A, a Substitute for R134a, to be Included in U.S. EPA’s SNAP
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decided to expand the list of acceptable substitutes for ozone-depleting substances under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program and is submitting the document for publication in the Federal Register (FR).

4. LG Opens Engineering Laboratory at Moscow State University
On September 19, the LG Engineering Lab for air conditioning and ventilation systems officially opened at the Heat and Ventilation Faculty of the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU). Training at the Lab is conducted by leading LG experts and faculty professors.
